Victorious Boys Advance To LI Championships

In a tight game for the Class D Suffolk County lacrosse championship between Port Jeff (9-7) and Center Moriches (8-7), Port Jeff left as the victors in a highly competitive contest. Two outstanding hat-trick performances from junior Kyle Scandale and senior Dan Koban assisted the royals in their win. Kyle put the Royals up early in the first quarter, which would end up being their only goal in the first half. A great game from goalie Peter Murphy held the Red Devils to one goal, going into halftime which left the game tied 1-1. A series of goals and a few good saves in the third quarter put Center Moriches in front for a while until a nice goal from Dan Koban gave the Royals a surge of momentum, which had the crowd roaring. Port Jeff would go out on a 4-0 run to go ahead of Center Moriches 6-7 in the fourth quarter. After multiple missed shots and impressive saves from Murphy, Center Moriches was able to find the net and tie it up. A sweet go-ahead goal from Kyle Scandale would give the Royals the lead 8-7 late in the fourth, and their defense would hold it down for the rest of the game, as they closed out the win. The program picked up their first County championship on Tuesday and will go on to face Friends Academy this Saturday at 10 am. The game will be held at East Islip middle school as the Royals look to claim their first LIC.

Girls Fall Short, Despite Historic Season

The girls lacrosse team finished with their best season in program history which came to an unfortunate end after coming up short in the County Championship. The whole team put up a great effort, but unfortunately fell short by a score of 8-7 in an overtime thriller. The seven goals scored by the Royals consisted of two by senior and Assumption Lacrosse commit Katelynn Johnston, as well as two by juniors Camryn Spiller and Kyle Johnston, and a single goal netted by sophomore Alexa Ayotte. The team looks to be back in the County Championship next year, where they can break records all over again.
